ABOUT THE JOB

At DKN, we approach every building on its own terms, drawing inspiration from the context of place, program, and budget. While our practice over the past 50+ years has been exceptionally diverse in terms of building types and settings, a central theme consistently evident in its built works is the conception of architecture as an art of place-making, combined with a deep understanding of functionality and affordability.

ARCHITECT

DKN is looking to expand our talented and creative design team with an Architect who is a self-starter, creative and organized. The ideal candidate must possess a knowledge of the practice of architecture with emphasis on design, building materials, construction methods, construction sequencing, integration of engineering disciplines, and building costs/codes.

 

QUALIFICATIONS / SALARY

 

  • Bachelor or Master of Architecture Degree from accredited architectural program (NAAB) Medical / Dental / Vision Insurance
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in an architectural office.
  • Licensure preferred, but not required.
  • Salary range $85,000 – $100,000, dependent on education, licensure status, and experience.

TECHNICAL SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES

 

  • Computer proficiency of Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Microsoft Windows based systems, Bluebeam.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local building and energy codes. 
  • Possesses excellent written and oral communication skills. 
  • Complete understanding of the preparation of Construction Drawings.
  • Understands construction sequencing.
  • Excellent problem solving, negotiation, and consulting skills.
  • Ability to create new ideas, both independently and in collaboration.
  • Ability to clearly communicate with clients, colleagues, consultants, contractors, and material suppliers.
  • Ability to translate client input and directives into architectural designs.
  • Ability to determine next steps for a project and plan the critical path for task completion.
  • Ability to work on multiple small/medium projects at various stages of development.

KEY ROLES / RESPONSIBILITIES 

 

  • Work with Principal-In-Charge, client, Director of Design, in-house project team, and external project consultants to complete all tasks related to the design and construction of a project. Conceptual building design, schematic design, design development, construction drawings, bidding/negotiations, and construction administration.
  • Project planning and production scheduling.
  • Building code research and Comchecks.
  • Material systems and construction method research.
  • Specification writing/editing.
  • Presentation of design concepts to clients.
  • Work with the Director of Construction Administration during the construction phase of the project including; attendance of onsite construction meetings and site visits to review pay applications and progress reports, submittal reviews and responses to RFI’s and construction related questions in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for creating and implementing his/her own work schedule including remote work or work from the office.
  • Work under deadlines.
